VIOLA is the beer with a strong evocative power, which recalls various worlds and sensations linked to the multiple meanings of its name: from color to a musical instrument, from a woman’s name to a flower. A multiplicity contained in the iconic bottle that becomes a lifestyle as soon as you open it.
The BIRRA ARDUINI Brewery was born from the desire of Maurizio Arduini to express himself by creating a product that could tell a part of his story. Offering his beer is both a pleasure and an emotion, especially for someone who has always recommended and sold beers together with his family. From this passion, the BIRRA ARDUINI Brewery began producing VIOLA, a beer that Maurizio dedicates to his grandfather Mario.
As a child, Maurizio often went on car outings with his grandfather who, being a motor enthusiast, would repeatedly say to him in Romagna dialect: “sent cum la và sta machinena, la và com’è nà viola!”—“feel how this car goes, it goes like a viola!” The car in question was a purple Fiat 127, though this was purely a coincidence.
For Maurizio, “VIOLA” has always represented excellence: if something goes well, it goes like a Viola. His grandfather surely intended to say that the engine sounded like a viola, referring to the musical instrument.
VIOLA therefore symbolizes something good, something that is good to make and good to drink.
Born in 2010, VIOLA is now sold and appreciated all over the world. This success has allowed Maurizio to experience moments of great sharing and strong emotions, both in Italy and abroad. Today, VIOLA has become a symbol—an authentic lifestyle.
To produce it, Maurizio relies on the advice of internationally renowned brewers. Thanks to their creativity and sensitivity in selecting and balancing the best raw materials, six types of beer have been created:
Viola Bionda Lager
Viola Rossa Red Ale
Viola Bianca Blanche
Viola Numerotre, a blonde pale ale refermented in the unfiltered bottle
Viola IPA, India Pale Ale
Viola 10th Anniversary, the 100% Italian unfiltered blonde pale ale
Each beer can be enjoyed on any occasion and paired with any dish that imagination suggests—because experimenting with unconventional combinations can lead to wonderful surprises.

VIOLA Italian Premium Beer is synonymous with made in Italy excellence
This is thanks to the advice of internationally renowned master brewers, their talent and their sensitivity in measuring the best raw materials. Each ingredient is essential and is chosen with great care.
Attention to the quality of raw materials is taken care of at the highest levels. The brewery is located in a mountainous area in the heart of Italy, an area characterized by the presence of water sources with excellent characteristics.
Water is the fundamental element of all beers, making up approximately 90% of the beer itself. This is why we use pure spring water, which gives us great flexibility and excellence in the production of the different styles of beer we create.
BARLEY & WHEAT MALTS
Barley is the most important and most used cereal in the production of beer although other cereals, such as wheat, are used to create specific beers. To make VIOLA we choose different cereals and different types of malt. An innovative mill for grinding malt allows us to carry out an initial soft pressing of the already moistened grain, which is essential in order not to stress the husks too much, followed by the actual grinding. In this way we are able to extract all those precious elements (enzymes, tannins, proteins) that are needed to produce an excellent beer.
HOPS
Hops or Humulus Lupulus is the plant that belongs to the cannabaceae family, originally from the British Isles and has always been used for its healing, flavoring and preservative properties, today it is widespread throughout Central Europe and has become a fundamental ingredient for beer. For our production we choose and use many different varieties, some 100% Italian and each of which has specific properties and aromas that contribute to “building” the unique personality of the beer.
YEASTS
There are different varieties of yeast but they are commonly divided into two main categories: Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Saccharomyces carlsbergensis. The former is involved in the production of top-fermented beers, such as ales and blanches, while the latter contributes to the creation of bottom-fermented beers, belonging to the vast lager family. The use of specific yeast strains varies based on the type of beer we are producing. It is crucial to note that yeast cultures are carefully monitored and managed by our biologists and our in-house laboratory quality manager.
SPICES & BLACKBERRIES
Water, malt, hops and yeast are certainly the four most important ingredients for obtaining a good beer. Nonetheless, it is possible to add others, in order to make the beer being produced even more unique. Spices such as coriander and fruit such as orange peel are used, for example, to make our VIOLA Blanche, thus enhancing the pleasantness and freshness of this white beer with the unique VIOLA flavour.
Birra VIOLA’s creations are the result of a long process of experimentation with always surprising results.
Making an excellent beer is a complex task that requires attention to numerous details in all phases of the production process. For Birra VIOLA, we do not compromise on any stage of the process. From carefully selecting the best ingredients to choosing the brewery based on water quality, we treat every component with the utmost care.
The process begins with barley malt, which is transformed by a malthouse (the conversion of raw grains into barley malt) and subsequently stored in modern silos with the advantage of putting less stress on the individual grains, which then face the first passage in a latest generation mill called “wet”. In fact, before grinding, the mill slightly wets the malt and, thanks to an initial soft pressing, keeps the skins intact which will then be used when the must passes into the filter vat.
This is followed by the crucial boiling phase, during which specific hops are added to give the characteristic bitter taste and define the flavor profile. After boiling, the wort passes through the whirlpool to separate the hop residues and is cooled through a coil containing cold water. This meticulous commitment and respect for the necessary times contribute to the creation of the beer that will be bottled.

We have taken care of the environmental impact since the first day of the production of Birra VIOLA.
WE DO NOT WASTE OR THROW ANYTHING AWAY
The barley malt waste, or the so-called threshers, are still rich in nutritional elements ideal for livestock and are therefore delivered as feed to a local livestock farm.
RECYCLABLE PACKAGING
We use 100% recyclable packaging cardboard, glued with corn starch-based glues. Finally, we use 100% recyclable glass for our bottles.
