When the young Norwegian Thomas BACHE-GABRIELSEN bravely left his home country at 21 to come and live in Cognac, this was the beginning of a great story. In 1905 he set up his Cognac business, using his own name to create his own Cognac brand.
Over the years and from father to son, each of the four generations Bache-Gabrielsen has made their own individual mark in the rich history of one of the most successful Cognac Houses. Known for its uncompromising quality and dedication to tradition, Bache-Gabrielsen Cognac represents an authentic expression of the region’s distinct terroir and ancestral history.
Cognac from Bache-Gabrielsen is not stored in any old oak barrels. Must be French Oak ‘Limousin’ - only the best is good enough. This French Oak acts very simply as a patchwork of spices for cognac.
The cellar where the barrels are stored is also vital for the growth of cognac, which will mature faster in a wet cellar than a dry one.
Between 1 and 3% alcohol evaporates from cognac in the barrel, creating a heavenly aroma - also known as the angels' share (la Part des Anges).
It is common for Bache-Gabrielsen to claim: "Nowhere in the world are there as many angels as in Cognac!" In terms of volume, the amounts that evaporate are equivalent to millions of bottles a year - so maybe it is really true that we will be rewarded in paradise ...?
Cognac
Particular attention to distillation, to the choice of oak wood and the humidity of the cellars, are all examples of the savoir-faire that is necessary throughout the long process of creating the final blend.
